Video Game Character Design

One of my third year university projects consisted of collaborating with Birmingham City University Video Game Digital Art students to develop a new game for Play Station 4. We were given four different character briefs in which we could choose from to digitally design the characters and their costumes. This was the first time I had designed digitally which allowed me to explore alternative methods of drawing figures and creating fabric textures.

I chose to develop characters and design costumes for The Corrupted character group using video game archetypes such as the trickster, the mentor, the hero and the shadow. The Corrupted are a character group who have descended from a mysterious indigenous tribe and live deep inside the jungle. The costumes I developed for each character represent their evil nature and outdoor living environments by using natural materials to produce their clothing, following and fulfilling the brief in which I was provided, from the Video Game Digital Art students.

I further explored my character development by creating scarification designs on the skin and the meanings being them as well as weapons for the characters which can be seen below.
